What is the difference between a custom theme and a child theme?
A custom theme is built from scratch and offers maximum design freedom. A child theme builds on an existing theme and customises it in an update-safe way, so no changes are lost during future updates.
Will my theme customisations be overwritten during WordPress updates?
No, not if we use a child theme. All customisations are stored in the child theme and remain intact when the parent theme is updated.
Can I redesign an existing theme without rebuilding it from scratch?
In many cases a child theme with targeted CSS and PHP adjustments is enough to transform your design significantly, at a much lower cost than a full rebuild.
