Smush is popular, but the free version only compresses losslessly and caps images at 5 MB – large photos stay untouched. Common issues: lazy load breaks sliders or above-the-fold images, WebP only works on Pro, and bulk compression stops at 50 images per run. Sometimes Smush clashes with other optimization plugins and images get processed twice.

We set the right compression type (lossless or Super-Smush), enable lazy load with exceptions for critical images, and – if Smush Pro is present – configure WebP delivery and CDN integration.
