Sucuri Security (the free plugin) confuses many people: the integrity scan spits out a long list of "modified" or "unknown" core files and you can't tell whether that's a hack or normal. The audit log only works partially without an API key, the hardening options go unused, and when Google blacklists your site there's no plan for getting off it. Without the paid firewall (WAF) there's also no active attack protection – which is often misunderstood.
We configure Sucuri Security properly: API key registered, audit log and file integrity monitoring active, all sensible hardening points set (block PHP in uploads, hide versions, lock down wp-content/wp-includes). In a hack we use the integrity check as a starting point, remove malware and backdoors, clean the database and .htaccess and request removal from Google Safe Browsing and other blacklists. Sucuri reports modified core files – is that bad?
Not always. Some changes are harmless (e.g. language files), others are a clear sign of a hack. We compare against the official WordPress files, spot manipulated code and restore clean originals where needed. €79/h incl. VAT.
Does the free Sucuri plugin include a firewall?
No – the free plugin scans, logs and hardens, but the active firewall (WAF) is a paid cloud service. We explain the difference and set up real WAF protection if needed, be it the Sucuri Firewall or a suitable alternative.
My site is on a blacklist – can you get it removed?
Yes. First we remove the cause (malware, spam redirects, backdoors), then we request a review at Google Safe Browsing and other lists. The request only works once the site is clean – otherwise it lands right back on the list.
